Playing for UR7s

Towards the end of each academy season, players get the opportunity to be selected for UR7s to play for the academy in tournaments across the country.

Boys are selected based on their performances in training across the season. This includes involvement in the mentor program, monthly sessions and the residential. Squad members are expected to have a good attendance record and have met any requirements that have been set by the coaches.

Playing Seasons

UR7s is very proud of a strong record in entered tournaments at junior age-groups, the playing season traditionally looks like.

UR7s Season 2018

As the Academy grows it is also intended that we will host an inter-academy tournament with sides selected across the age-groups to play one another giving the coaches an opportunity to work with all the boys on a single day.

UR7s Junior Wanderers

UR7s took U16 & U18 squads to Lisbon in 2018 in early April. International tours are a vital part of the 7s world given the HSBC World Sevens Series and tours are a great opportunity to players to continue their development in a different environment.

UR7s Pinks

The UR7s Pinks are the U16 representative side for the Academy who have had success across the UK and Europe most recently winning the Lisbon 7s in 2018.

UR7s Blacks

The UR7s Blacks are a representative side of the junior Academy. 2018 saw the Blacks win the LM 7s beating the Pinks in the final. The Blacks have also won at tournaments such as Bath and West Country 7s in the past.

Tournament Experience

Understanding how to play 5/6 matches in a day is hugely important for young players as they understand looking after themselves so that they can perform to the best of their ability. This only comes from tournament experience.
