The Top-Up Clinic takes place the day before the respective residential camp and is aimed at delivering specific coaching clinics with expert coaches for the attending players.
The top-up clinics are designed to develop highly transferable skills for both the 15s and 7s game and are coached by players and coaches with specific skills and experiences.
Players work closely with the coaches to understand the finer details of areas of the game that they have a specific interest in or want to work further on.
Kicking is a wide-ranging and important skill in both 7s and 15s with the fundamentals of kicking completely transferable across both forms of the game. In this clinic, players get the chance to work with current World Series kicker for Wales, Ethan Davies on all aspects of the skill leaving all attendees with a skill development program to work on in their own time.
Whether on the 7s or 15s field, every team needs players to pull the strings in a creative way. This clinic helps those playing in the role of a playmaker to develop the skills, vision and decision making needed to make an impact. Wales 7s captain Luke Treharne works with the young players and shares his experiences from the HSBC World Sevens Series as a world-class playmaker.
Jackal & Breakdown
The modern game of rugby requires players to be able to flourish in all of the fundamentals of our sport. One of these is the contact area; be it the tackle or the breakdown and the specific techniques required at different times. Players work with Team GB/Wales 7s & 15s international and Ospreys back-rower Sam Cross to develop specific skills in this area.
The old adage is that ‘Speed Kills’ and every player irrespective of position, shape or size can work on their speed & footwork. UR7s has recruited an Olympic sprinter to work alongside UR7s’ coaching team to work with the players in understanding how they can develop their sprinting skills with and without the ball.
Strength & Conditioning
There is so much information accessible for young players on S&C today, it’s more of a case of knowing what to follow and what not to follow. UR7s expert S&C coach works with the players to understand some basic principles in strength and conditioning for both 7s and 15s. With a concentration on movement & mobility and the impact of these on performance, players go away with a deeper understanding of what they can do off the field to benefit them on the field.
