Academy Graduates

UR7s has worked with some very talented players of all ages since starting the program in 2013 with a large number of boys going on to play age-grade international rugby, professionally contracted, top-level university and international 7s.

Whilst the aim of the academy is to help every player reach his potential, we recognize that this can be done a number of ways. Be it mixing rugby with academics at either Higher Education/Further Education or going on to play professionally. Every player has his own pathway and one that is specific to him.

Below is some feedback from current players who are National Academy graduates on how the being involved in the program has benefitted their development.

UR7s is dedicated to getting the most out of every player in the program and best arming them to play at the highest level possible. This could be club, university or country. Below is a range of players that have all benefited from the program in different ways

Will Wilson

Will joined the UR7s Academy as a U15 and stayed through to leaving school. He travelled to Boston with UR7s for the USCD and has since earnt an Oxford Blue before making his England 7s debut and recently signing for Wasps in the Premiership.

“UR7s essentially started me out on the 7s path that’s taken me to places I never thought I would go”

Fergus Guiry

Fergus joined the UR7s Academy after being scouted playing for his club Worthing. Fergus thrived in the program before going on to Seaford College to continue his rugby development. Fergus has recently made his England 7s debut in Hong Kong and is now attending Loughborough University.

“UR7s gave me the opportunity to play a lot of 7s from a young age as well as driving home the basic skills of 7s and the high speed they are delivered at. Enjoyment was always at the forefront of everything we did which was huge for me”

Gabe Seriki

Gabe is currently a U17 in the National Academy program who joined following being scouted playing for his club Old Alleynians. Gabe has flourished since joining the program on and off the field and he is now part of the Senior U18 Academy at Saracens alongside his 7s commitments.

“I enjoy the style of rugby and that we are given the opportunity to play fast-paced and free-flowing rugby, allowing for individual expression. I also enjoy how close the team is which includes the coaches. It makes the environment a special one”

Miles Lear

Miles is currently a U18 in the National Academy program who joined following being scouted playing for his club Old Albanians at one of the UR7s tournaments. Miles has become a creative, ball-carrying forward with a real work ethic to learn more about the sport.

“Personally I get so much out of the level of play from all involved. The quality of the coaching and the environment that is created is one unlike anything I have been involved with before”

James Clout

James is a current U17 in the National Academy who lives in Sydney, Australia. James decided that to further the 7s development he needed to work with UR7s so attends to the residential camp and has played for UR7s in Portugal.

“The culture between the boys in UR7s is amazing. Everyone gets along to the point that I feel I have made lifelong mates and…brothers.”

Ollie Hocking

Ollie joined the National Academy after attending a Talent Development Day in Wales (he lives in London) as a 13 year old. UR7s has supported his entire young rugby career and help with his decisions as he heads off to University. He has spent over five years in the Academy and is a real credit to himself and his family on and of the field.

“I enjoyed being part of UR7s as it has given me an insight into high level 7s and what’s it like to be a rugby 7s player at the highest level. Excellent coaching and I have had the chance to meet and be coached by England, Wales, GB and French internationals!”
