World leading annual National Academy program for girls and boys running from August – June each season.

See the simple in chaos

The UR7s National Academy works with internationally acclaimed coaches as we strive to develop talented players to Rugby 7s Olympians. By giving young players a unique insight into the game of 7s as the 2020 Olympics approaches, we’re providing students with the knowledge of what it takes to play 7s at the highest level. The skills we teach are transferable to the XV a side game and to players of all sizes, positions and ages.

The program starts August annually with a residential camp hosted at stunning Epsom College. UR7s scouts and selects 100 players in both our Junior (U13-15) and Senior (16-18) groups, providing three days of deep dive insight into high performance for rugby 7s. This is taught on and off the field by our world-class coaches.

The program is built on creativity and fun, giving all involved the opportunity to express themselves in a no-pressure environment.

Junior Academy

The UR7s Junior National Academy is for U13-U15 young rugby players who want to explore the game of rugby 7s alongside their school & club XVs rugby commitments. With 100 boys in the program, players work with some of the best coaches in the world to use rugby 7s as a vehicle to develop their skills both in 7s and XVs. The Junior Academy places a real importance on the fundamentals of the game whilst empowering all involved to become creative, instinctive, intelligent rugby players.

Senior Academy

The UR7s Senior National Academy is for U16-U19s who want to take their experience of the game of rugby 7s to the next level. Working with some of the best coaches in the world, the squad works towards a deeper understanding of the game and what it takes to play at the highest level whilst continuing developing in the fundamentals of the sport. The Senior Academy program stays true to the ethos of ‘seeing the simple in the chaos’ as players are encouraged to express themselves on and off the field.

Residential Camp

The ‘crown jewel’ of the National Academy season. The Junior & Senior squads come together separately for residential training camp for 3/4 days at Epsom College each August during the summer holidays. This is the first opportunity for boys from all across the country to come together for an action packed, fun few days of rugby 7s. The camp gives players the chance to understand all aspects of the game on the field, off the field, in the classroom even in the kitchen. It’s not to be missed!

Top-Up Clinics

Every player has their strengths and weaknesses to their game and the top-up clinics give all the squad the opportunity to develop these particular skills further. Players choose two clinics from a range on offer and get the chance to work with a specific coach on these skills. From breakdown work to sprinting, the top-up clinics cover all aspects of 7s & 15s and include an extra night accommodation at Epsom College.

World Class Coaching

Have what it takes to be an expert leader in the World of 7s Rugby?

Meet the Coaches

UR7s is incredibly proud of its coaching team. We believe that young players are inspired to learn & enjoy their rugby if the coaching team is vibrant, creative and made up of young coaches who are either still playing or have recently retired. The expereicnce that these players have both on and off the field is invaluable in both inspiring and teaching the squad. The coaching team includes internationals of all levels and players/coaches that have excelled off the field including doctors & Oxbridge Blues amongst many more.

Academy Structure

The UK is fortunate to have the most school, club and invitational rugby 7s opportunities in the world. This gives us the chance to scout the best players to be involved in the program and develop strong relationships with clubs/schools/national teams for players to go on to continue their development upon graduating from the program.

Academy Graduates

UR7s has been very fortunate to work with some talented, brilliant young men that have gone on to continue their rugby development at clubs, universities and nationals teams. The program is designed to get the very best out of every individual involved and best arm them to continue playing at the highest level possible. We are advocates of players continuing to play alongside their education and have built many links to make this possible with universities and colleges around the country.

Playing for UR7S

The National Academy program is capped off each season with tours and tournaments giving players the chance to represent the academy and put their skills to the test in the Pink & Blue of UR7s. Working with the coaching team in a competitive environment is vital to continue the development of each of the players as game-time offers different challenges. All deserving players will get a chance to represent the academy each season.
